Me and Brompton Bicycles in NYC

Back in 2011 I bought a Brompton on a whim and set off a bike adventure called ‘Florida to Maine by Bike and Train’ (download the PDF book I made about the trip).

One of the best stories with that Brompton: I was traveling from Portland Maine to NYC in one day. Took the train from Portland ME to Boston, MA. That train stops at North Station (I think it’s called that), and the bus I needed to catch was at South Station.

I booked my bus about an hour and a half after I’d get into North Station, but we were delayed. I don’t remember it well, but I think I only had 30 minutes to get me and my bike to South Station. It was only 1.5 miles away, but it’s an unfamiliar city!

Once the train stopped I remember jumping off, sprinting through North Station and flying through town to make my bus. Which I did.

But then the bus broke down just 20 minutes outside of Boston. Ended up getting into NYC four hours late.

So the spirit of Brompton called me back to NYC on April 26th, 2018 with a new store opening gala downtown. I met this awesome woman and I think I talked her into buying a Brompton, and met up with an old biking pal who is now the VP of Marketing and Retail at Brompton.

Selling my Brompton was one of the things I regret in recent years. My bank account won’t like it, but I really feel like one of these bikes will be a part of my life sooner than later.
